OK, finally got my v1.1 revision of the Chip-8 board and just put everything together.

  • No more SMD resistors, everything is through-hole
  • The PCB now says which components go where
  • Slightly cleaner layout (including properly centered keyboard and screen)

And this time I properly soldered the keyboard pins 😄

I think I'm happy with the PCB design now, so it's time to design the shell.

I might still change some things so that the battery and keyboard fit properly, but I think I can mostly do that in software. One idea is to rotate the screen 180 degrees, so that the power plug comes from the top, and then just wrap the keyboard around.

This keyboard with the bus coming from the bottom is really annoying, though. I'm tempted to just draw some new buttons so that the bus comes from the top instead.

All components needed (hat, keyboard, screen, power bank and Raspberry Pi))
Everything assembled, running "Rush Hour"

Also, I am aware that my soldering skills are pretty shoddy, and that's visible on the picture. Please don't judge.

At least I'm getting better at it :)
