@alexelcu@social.alexn.org FWIW, regarding the situation in Brazil, it seems like they went back on the VPN decision. It's still legal to use a VPN.
Which makes sense, as a lot of orgs depend on actual VPNs (not just glorified proxies).

If you want privacy on the internet (e.g., for torrenting Linux distros, or accessing X/Twitter in Brazil), you use a VPN. But online payments link your identity to the VPN, and VPN use can be a crime.
Except for cryptocurrency. Is it useful for illegal stuff? Well, yeah.
