Was ripping some old-ish (around 2010) music CDs today.

Two things that I had completely forgotten about, and found quite amusing:

One was that a bunch of those CDs were already "pre-ripped": As in, they had a separate music partition with the MP3s. That was pretty nice, especially since I didn't really care about lossless quality.

Another was how pervasive MySpace was in the late 00s. Sure, I recall finding a lot of bands in there, but I forgot how prominent the MySpace links where in the albums/compilation covers.

That was pretty nice, especially since I didn't really care about lossless quality.

OK, I might have to eat my own words. One of the albums is at 16 kbps/11025Hz mono.

So unless I somehow messed up both disks of a compilation (which I doubt... I just used the defaults everywhere)... I think they just shipped some garbage files and hoped no one would notice.

Guess I'll have to rip it again the next time I visit my parents.

At least the files are pretty small, less than 500kB per song.
